Moving Together to Reclaim and Resist by Partition Ensemble 2020 published on 2020-07-26T20:13:55Z Moving Together to Reclaim and Resist marries the vital need for a CATR working group dedicated to Indigenous performance on Turtle Island with the conference’s recent tradition of offering a “walking” (or moving) group that enables participants to physically acknowledge the unceded and ancestral lands occupied by the conference proceedings. In light of Covid-related shifts to CATR 2020, MTRRwill provide an accessible audio alternative to our original format in which all conference-goers are invited to join us in an ambling exploration of how we might responsibly situate ourselves in relation to the lands we occupy, the Indigenous peoples from whom it was taken, and their intellectual and political traditions. The MTRR cohort has created a podcast episode featuring individual embodied land engagements; members from across Turtle Island affirm the territories they occupy by combining personal reflections with vivid ambient audio. (Transcripts are available upon request.) This experiential archive chronicles how territories speak and how we, from our unique and intersecting positions, aspire to offer our respect in response. Because we are at a moment where critiquing the practice of territorial acknowledgements is as important as enacting them, our work challenges official scripts for the land acknowledgment. Group members have also been invited to share brief written reflections on the context of their recordings, providing a record of our varied experiences during the pandemic. --- This presentation is a part of the 2020 Partition Ensemble Conference held by The Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR) and the Société québécoise d’études théâtrales (SQET).
