Author Guidelines

Submissions to Performance Matters should be submitted online as Microsoft Word or Rich Text documents. The text should be double-spaced.

Submissions should be between 7,000-9,000 words and should follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed. (author-date citation system). Please use brief parenthetical citations that correspond to a References list. Where necessary, use endnotes rather than footnotes. A quick guide to Chicago-Style Citation can be found at:

All article submissions are peer-reviewed. Please be careful to remove any author identification, including in parenthetical citations, notes, and references lists. Authors' name must also be removed from the document's Properties, which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu.

Please submit as supplementary files along with your manuscript any Web-ready images, audio, or video clips, that you would like to include in your online publication. Do not list your name as creator or owner of the file in order to protect the blind peer review.

Submissions must not have been previously published nor be before another journal for consideration. In any other circumstance, an explanation must be provided in Comments to the Editor

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end; and any reference
manager program (e.g., RefWorks, EndNote, Zotero) that might have been used to create citations and references has been disabled.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
