This issue springs from the effort to reflect on and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Canadian Theatre Review, publishing nine articles from the 199-200 issue of Canadian Theatre Review that were rescinded by their authors. While Performance Matters 12.1 addresses the conditions that led to this action and poses questions of the future of publishing in Canadian theatre and performance, this issue also seeks to expand on extant discussions of what constitutes a “Canadian” theatre history, the voices that were muted in its forging, and the road ahead.
